Brian is a hospital coordinator and a consultant in violence issues. He
is a high-ranking martial artist who is a Hospital Security Restraint
Instructor. He has developed a program for a major metropolitan hospital
to address patient violence and has taught the program with updates to over
1,000 employees. He has also provided lectures on violence mitigation for
Managers in the Workplace and provided lecture-workshops on self protection for
visiting nurses, developed and taught Student Violence Mitigation Strategies
program for public educators.
"As a husband and a father I know that the sad truth is that our world can be a
very brutal place. Unfortunately, we can't always be there to protect our loved
ones. So the next best course of action is to make sure that we empower them to
protect themselves. To this end I am always seeking training programs that can
be taught in terms of hours (not months or years - like some martial arts
programs do) and incorporate gross motor skills with realistic scenarios. I
believe that the Rape Escape Method and its modules are perfect for teaching
women with minimal training background to protect themselves from criminal
assault.
"I believe that women’s self-defense needs to be practical and achievable within
a limited time frame. Having to study a martial arts system for years to learn
to defend yourself is impractical. Therefore, the training I seek to provide
will give you more than a fighting chance in just a few hours and won’t expect
you to have any prior martial arts, police, or military training. Self-defense
training should be simple and effective.
"Several years ago, when I was developing a program for the Nursing staff at a
major metropolitan hospital to deal with combative patients, I was often
approached by the female nursing staff with requests for more self-defense
oriented training that was practical for women. After searching the Internet I
found the Rape Escape program. Unfortunately, at the time I was also pursuing an
MBA and didn’t have the time to dedicate to travel and serious study of how to
roll out a new program. After I finished my degree I started to put together a
part-time consultancy in violence issues which is when I decided to pursue the
Rape Escape program as an Instructor. I believe that with my background and my
current job I am in a strong position to market this program in several venues."
